Man dies in ATV crash near Butler/Venango county line
IRWIN TWP, Venango County — A 66-year-old township man was killed Saturday afternoon when the all-terrain vehicle he was riding flipped and landed on top of him.
Jack A. Cokain died of injuries in the one-vehicle crash near his family’s farm on Slippery Rock Creek Road just north of the Butler County line.
Cokain was traveling west on the road about 3:20 p.m. when he lost control of his Polaris Sportsman Twin four-wheeler while turning into the driveway at a relative’s home, according to a police report.
Trooper Toby Johnson, the investigating officer, said Cokain lived nearby.
Cokain fell off the ATV when it overturned. The vehicle rolled over and landed on top of Cokain said Johnson. He was not wearing a helmet.
A resident at the home saw the injured man at the end of the driveway and called 911, according to a Venango County dispatcher.
A Superior Ambulance crew treated Cokain before he was taken to the Grove City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour after the accident.
He died of apparent chest injuries.
The Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
