Richard Dean Birckbichler

Richard Dean Birckbichler, 66, passed away unexpectedly June 2 at his home in St. Augustine, Fla., after complications from knee replacement.

Rich was born on Aug. 1, 1948, in Butler to Virginia M. Weiland Birckbichler and the late Thomas G. Birckbichler.

Richard was a graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1966. Richard graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with an engineering degree and a master's degree from Northern Illinois University.

During his lifetime, he proudly served his country as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

Richard was involved in telecommunications for most of his working life. After retirement, Rich relocated from Columbia, Md., to St. Augustine in 2014 where he was a member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. His passions were his family, his friends, anything Disney, golf and travel. Rich was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded by his father, Thomas G. Birckbichler, and brother, Thomas G. Birckbichler Jr.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Jane; his sons, Brian Neil Birckbichler, Kevin Richard Birckbichler, Brandon Patrick and daughter-in-law, RoseAnna Birckbichler; his mother, Virginia M. Weiland Birckbichler; his brother, Roy F. Birckbichler (Denise Birckbichler), and his sister, Rosemary Birckbichler Mason (Mark Baker.)

He is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews.

BIRCKBICHLER — The funeral service for Richard Dean Birckbichler, who died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, was Tuesday at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Interment followed at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Fla.Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
