Van Sickle grabs lead by a stroke
EXPORT — Rob McClellan isn’t on top of the leaderboard anymore, but he will be in the discussion for a championship Wednesday at the 111th West Penn Open Championship at Westmoreland Country Club.
McClellan, head golf pro at Butler County Club, shot a 1-under par 70 in the second round Tuesday, slipping to second place with a score of 136.
Mike Van Sickle took the lead by shooting a 68, moving one shot in front of McClellan.
Three other local golfers made the cut at the event, which cut down to the top 32 golfers plus ties.
Saxonburg resident Joe Boros, who is the club pro at Treesdale Country Club, rebounded from a first-round 76 by firing a 70 to just make the cut.
Grove City’s Ryan Prokay moved into a tie for fourth place by shooting a 71, giving him a two-day total of 141. Slippery Rock’s Brett Rinker also made the cut with a two-day total of 144 (72-72).
