Bob Edwards

Robert V. Edwards, 83, of Worthington, passed away Tuesday at his home.

Born Oct. 7, 1931, he was the son of Raymond O. and Ruth E. (Snyder) Edwards.

He attended Furnace Run School and Kittanning High School. On June 11, 1955, Bob married the former Mary Jane Szalankiewicz. She survives.

A U.S. Army veteran, Bob served in Korea with the Company A and Company K 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division — the Indian Head Division. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Presidential Unit Citation, a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Camp Stars and the Bronze Star Medal.

Bob was the commander of the Worthington American Legion Post 828 and had served as county commander of the American Legion for 13 years. He also belonged to the Pattonville VFW. He was a member of the Purple Heart Association and a founding member of the AMVETS. He was also a member of the War Veterans Association.

Bob was instrumental in starting the Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard and was passionate in fundraising for the World War II Monument in Washington D.C.

Bob spent his career as a plumber with Enders Plumbing and Heating in Kittanning. He was a member of the Plumbers Union Local 27 since 1957.

A member of the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bob was active in the Young at Heart Society and served on church council.

He started the Palomino Baseball League, which is currently the Worthington-Kittanning League. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane of Worthington; three daughters Kim (Michael) Sarachine of Widnoon, Robin (George Michael) Livengood of Worthington and Bridget Edwards of Worthington; three granddaughters, Dawn Livengood, Mari Jo Klingensmith and Shawna Cigola; and four grandsons, Matt Livengood, Nick Sarachine, Philip Sarachine and Josh Edwards.

He also is survived by two great-granddaughters, Lexie Livengood and Chloe Sarachine; five great-grandsons, Connor Cigola, Bryce Livengood, Primo Cigola, Dawson Merryman and Mika Klingensmith; and one sister, Raylene (Chuck) Wagner of Clinton, Pa.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Bernice Edwards; one great-granddaughter, Laurel Livengood-Anderson; one sister, Ada Farone; and three brothers, Harold, Jim and Bill Edwards.

EDWARDS — Friends of Robert V. Edwards, who died Tuesday, June 23, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady.A Parish prayer service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A veterans service will be at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. John Butler officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Armstrong County Honor Guard after Mass at the church.
