George Rector
George James Rector, 93, of Grove City, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away of natural causes at 11:35 a.m. Monday at the Grove City Medical Center in Grove City.
He was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Corydon, Ind., to Charley Jacob Rector and Nova Beatrice Crawford Rector. He married Harriett Jane Jervis on March 20, 1943, in Arcadia, Calif.
George entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 15, 1942, serving in Europe. He was honorably discharged on April 1, 1946.
He retired in 1983 from the New Castle News following 20 years of service as a Linotype operator. He had previously worked for the Courrier-Journal and the Louisville Times in Louisville, Ky.
George was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock, the Masonic Lodge 603 of Grove City and the Slippery Rock American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Jane of Grove City; his daughter, Diane Rae Poulos and her husband, James, of Grove City; his son, Dennis Marlin Rector and his wife, Kathryn, of Nazareth, Pa.; his daughter-in-law, Charlotte Rector Bollinger and her husband, Kevin; his brother, Max Gordon Rector of New Albany, Ind.; four grandchildren, Jeff Rector, Melissa Rector Schooley, Michelle Poulos Stasny and Kristen Rector Mahin; and seven great-grandchildren, Kale Rector, Quinn Rector, Elizabeth Schooley, Wyatt Schooley, Isabelle Mahin, Chloe Mahin and Megan Stasny.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Rector in 1984.
RECTOR — The family of George James Rector, who died Monday, June 29, 2015, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Turner, pastor of the Highland Presbyterian Church, presiding. A Masonic service will be observed at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
