SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team has been named one of 49 NCAA Division II programs to earn Academic Honor Squad accolades from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

SRU earned the team award for maintaining a collective grade point average above 3.0 following the 2014-15 academic year.

Six individual players — seniors Paige Costantino, Lydia Heishman and Sarah Morris, juniors Kaytlin Callaghan, Jessica Johnson and Erin Wilcox — received all-academic honors for maintaining GPA's above 3.5.

PENN TWP — Charlie Jaicks of Mars scored a double eagle on the par 5, 500-yard No. 7 hole recently at Conley's.He used a driver and a nine-iron to score a “2” on the hole.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State running back Dalvin Cook was found not guilty on Monday of punching a woman in the face outside a bar in June after she engaged in a shouting match with him and his teammates. The college immediately lifted his suspension following the verdict.It took the seven-member jury only about 20 minutes to deliver its decision after a one-day trial that included the testimony of the alleged victim, one of her friends and several of Cook's teammates. Cook had been charged with misdemeanor battery.

PHOENIX — Lance Lynn kept finding himself in trouble — some of it his fault, some of it the fielders behind him.The right-hander wriggled his way out of it each time with a double play, including one big one with the bases loaded and Arizona's best hitter at the plate.Lynn pitched six effective innings with the help of four double plays — one with Paul Goldschmidt up and the bases loaded — to lift the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-3 victory over the Diamondbacks on Monday night.

SEA BRIGHT, N.J. — Officials say a 17-year-old open water swimmer from New Jersey became the first person to swim a course of just over 20 miles through what's known as the New York Bight.Ridgewood resident Charlotte Samuels began her journey around 7 a.m. Saturday and finished before 5 p.m.Samuels dove into the waters of Long Island's Atlantic Beach and swam to the Jersey shore town of Sea Bright in just under 10 hours. She says her official time was far less than the projected 12- to 16-hour swim she was expecting.

BEREA, Ohio — The Browns believe Johnny Manziel’s sore elbow could be the result of his slinging arm motion, something they won’t try to change.Manziel did not throw any passes during practice Monday, the second time in two weeks that Cleveland’s celebrated backup quarterback has been withheld from drills because of elbow pain.
