Troopers use Taser on man

He allegedly made threats

SUMMIT TWP — A 55-year-old township man who told family members he wanted to shoot police was arrested Tuesday night after he mimicked pointing a handgun at troopers, authorities said.

The officers had gone to Christopher Bernard Johnson’s home on Vogelyville Road in Summit Township for a reported domestic dispute about 9 p.m. that was turning violent.

Johnson had allegedly smashed out the windows of two vehicles and busted the door window at the house. His wife, Cherie Johnson, called 911.

Her husband, it was reported, was talking about a gun and threatening “to shoot and kill the police when police arrived on scene,” according to court documents.

When troopers got there they saw Johnson in the yard with his left hand in the air and his right hand behind his back.

Despite the officers’ repeated commands, he refused to take his hand out from behind his back. He dared police to shoot him, documents said.

The suspect eventually tried to hide behind the house before returning, this time making a hand gesture at Trooper Amanda Cagno.

Police said Johnson “pointed his hand at (Cagno) as if he were shooting a gun.”

Cpl. Timothy Morando was able to get behind Johnson and Tasered him. However, he continued to resist police before they were able to handcuff him.

Police noted that they later determined Johnson did not have a gun.

He is charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. He also is charged with resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

Johnson is in the Butler County Prison on $7,500 bail.
