SLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — McConnells Mill State Park will host its 23rd annual Heritage Festival this weekend.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The festival celebrates the period of the historic grist mill, from 1852 to 1928. Vendors, dressed in period costume, will display crafts from that time period.

Artists and craftsmen will have artwork for sale. There will also be live music, a Civil War encampment and free gristmill tours. Activities will be at the Kildoo picnic area and at the gristmill.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Lions Club will host a “Touch a Truck” event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Giant Eagle on Route 173.Children will be able to touch fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, bucket trucks and semi-trucks.There will also be balloons, face painting, music and refreshments.Audubon Society to award scholarshipsThe Bartramian Audubon Society will award two scholarships for teens and one for a teacher this year.One scholarship is for students age 14 to 17 who live in Butler, Lawrence, Mercer or Venango counties. The winner will attend Coastal Maine Bird Studies for Teens in June at Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine. The second student scholarship is for ages 18 to 19 to attend “Arts and Birding” in July at Hog Island.Applications are due Oct. 31 for students.Applications are due Feb. 28 for teachers to attend the Sharing Nature: An Educator's Week at Hog Island in July.Applications are available at www.bartramianaudubon.org or by contacting Gene Wilhelm at 724-704-2434.

GROVE CITY — The American College of Radiology's Commission on Ultrasound Accreditation recently awarded a three-year accreditation to Grove City Medical Center's ultrasound department.A nationally recognized organization, the ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team will hold a Fall Fest from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 at the fire station at 162 Elm St.There will be a hay castle, children's games, food and pumpkins for sale and tours of the new ambulance station.There will also be a ping pong ball drop contest from the department's 100-foot ladder truck. Proceeds will benefit the department.
