Richard Collier

FAIRVIEW TWP — A Freeport man died Sunday evening of injuries he suffered Friday in a motorcycle wreck on Route 268, authorities said.

Richard J. Collier, 30, was pronounced dead at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh where he was taken following the Friday night crash.

Collier was traveling north on Route 268 when he lost control of his speeding 2012 Yamaha Star about 9:20 p.m. Friday near Fairmont Road, state police said.

He was thrown off the cycle and ended on the northbound lane near the vehicle. Police said Collier was not wearing a helmet.

The Chicora Volunteer Fire Department and Petrolia Ambulance were called and tended to Collier, who was taken to Kepples Corner where a medical helicopter landed and flew him to AGH.

He was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m. Sunday of severe head injuries, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

Collier was a graduate of Karns City High School and worked at the Shields Paving Co.

The Mantini Funeral Home in Ford City is handling funeral arrangements.
