Man found dead in motel in Butler Township
BUTLER TWP — A 29-year-old man found dead in a hotel room Monday afternoon died of a suspected heroin overdose, authorities said.
John Kolakowski was found dead at 1 p.m. at the Days Inn on Route 8 south of Butler after hotel staff went to check on him when he did not show up for his scheduled check out.
Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr pronounced Kolakowski dead. Barr said that rigor mortis had set in, and the man had been dead for about 12 hours.
Kolakowski, who apparently had no permanent address, had checked into the hotel on Sunday, said Butler Township police.
Authorities said empty stamp bags of suspected heroin and a hypodermic needle were found in the room. There was no injuries or other trauma on the body to suggest foul play, Barr said.
An autopsy was done but the cause of death still is pending toxicology results, which are not expected for several weeks.
