CRANBERRY TWP — The monthly trash rates for township customers will increase starting in January 2016.

The township’s contract with Vogel Disposal, its municipal waste collector, has periodic rate increases.

The rates need to fund the replacement of household trash carts, many of which have been used since 2004, according to a release from the township.

At the Oct. 29 meeting, the township supervisors approved a schedule of price increases that will increase monthly garbage cart rates by either 50 cents or $1.50, depending on the size of the cart. Recycling and yard waste carts still will be free.

Homes with more than one trash cart will pay an extra 30 cents a month for each additional cart, regardless of its capacity.

Backyard collection service will remain available for $42 a month, which is a one-time increase of $8.50.
