Police arrest alleged longtime, 'significant' drug dealer
An alleged longtime drug dealer, described by authorities as a “significant player” in trafficking crack cocaine and heroin in Butler, was arrested Monday by Butler County narcotics officers.
Zaamar “Scrap” Stevenson’s “take down” in Butler yielded more than 100 baggies of crack, dozens of stamp bags of heroin and more than a thousand dollars in currency, said county Detective Tim Fennell.
The 39-year-old Stevenson of New Castle was the target of a monthlong investigation by the county Drug Task Force. He is in the county prison on $100,000 bail.
Fennell, who supervises the task force, is familiar with Stevenson based on prior drug investigations that date back to the early- and mid-2000s.
“We’re old friends,” Fennell quipped.
Investigators believe Stevenson was responsible for selling a large amount of crack and heroin. He was known to use rental cars to make his alleged roving drug deals.
“His arrest takes off the street a door-to-door drug delivery service,” Fennell said. “We’re happy for that.”
The task force zeroed in on Stevenson after getting tips from users and informants, one who claimed to buy heroin and crack from the defendant “almost every day, and sometimes multiple times a day,” according to court documents.
A controlled drug buy Monday that used an informant culminated the probe.
