PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh lawyer says he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for attorney general.

David Fawcett, a former Allegheny County councilman whose legal specialty is complex commercial litigation, told a Pittsburgh newspaper in a story published Thursday that the attorney general’s office has become “dysfunctional” under embattled incumbent Kathleen Kane.

Fawcett, who served as a Republican in his two terms on the council, has never been a prosecutor.

Kane, a Democrat who faces perjury and other charges, has said she plans to seek a second term next year but that she doesn’t think she would be eligible to run as long as her law license remains suspended by the state Supreme Court.

The only other declared Democratic candidate is Jack Stollsteimer, a lawyer and former prosecutor from Delaware County.
