4 teens hurt in car-pickup crash on Route 422

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — Four teenagers, at least one from Butler County, were among those injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in the township, authorities said.

Firefighters had to rescue three of the teens who were trapped in a car following the collision at Route 422 and Mount Herman Church Road.

A medical helicopter flew one of the victims from a nearby school to an undisclosed hospital. Ambulances took the other victims to hospitals, according to emergency officials.

State police said the crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. when Austin Lawson 18, of Zelienople ran a stop sign while southbound on Mount Herman Church Road.

Lawson’s 2015 Toyota Camry traveled into the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side by a 2005 Ford F-350 pickup truck driven by Chester Chronoski, no age given, of Steetsboro, Ohio.

The collision forced both vehicles off the south side of Route 422, police said. The truck rolled over, and the car hit two other vehicles parked in a lot,

Lawson and his three passengers— a 16-year-old girl and 16- and 17-year-old boys — all suffered moderate injuries. Police did not identify those passengers.

Chronoski suffered a minor injury. Both vehicles had severe damage, police said. A police report did not indicate if charges would be filed.

The Slippery Rock Township and Shenango volunteer fire departments, Noga and Portersville ambulances, and STAT MedEvac assisted police at the scene.
