Marie G. Handte

Marie G. Handte, 92, of Fenelton died Monday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

She was born in Verona, Pa., a daughter of the late Samuel Thompson and Charlotte (Lutz) Thompson.

Marie was a 1941 graduate of Schenley High School, following that she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Pittsburgh. She was then a homemaker and mother, and after her children were old enough, she worked for The McCandless Agency as a book keeper, retiring in 1984, following 29½ years.

She was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville, and she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and being with her family.

Surviving are her two daughters, Kathy (John) Green of Butler and Patricia Barker of Freedom, Pa.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Sr. Mary Urban Handte, C.S.J. of Baden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis E. Handte Sr., who she married April 21, 1944, and who died Dec. 26, 2008; her son, Louis Handte Jr.; her daughter, Marilyn Wise; her sister, Florence Sears; and her son-in-law, Bob Barker.

HANDTE — Friends of Marie G. Handte, who died Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville. Interment will follow at Sr. John's Parish Cemetery.
