Ruth Ann (Johnstone) Conklin, 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday at the Berks Heim Nursing Home, Leesport, Pa., following a lingering illness.

Ruth was born in Butler to her parents, Walter and Esther Johnstone. She attended Butler High School and received a teaching degree from Slippery Rock University.

She worked as a teacher at Grove City High School until she and her husband, Arthur Van Conklin, retired and moved to Shillington, Pa., in 1996.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Van Conklin; her children, Cathy Guss, Chris Conklin and Bruce Conklin; her brother, James Johnstone; and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and teacher, and she inspired her children, as well as her students. She will be deeply missed.
