Marion L. Martin

Marion Louis Martin, 84, of Mercer, Pa., formerly of Grove City, passed away at Countryside Nursing Home on Lamor Road in Mercer at 10:23 p.m. Thursday following an extended illness.

He was born on March 18, 1931 in Scott Township, Lawrence County, to Clifford Rodger Martin and Hazel Double Martin.

He married Doris Cumblidge, who preceded him in death in 1976.

He later married Sally S. Chutz, and she preceded him in death in 1993.

He had worked at Tajon Trucking, where he was vice president and fleet manager.

He later was a partner of ARROW Terminal in Industry, Pa., where his work focused on starting up new terminal locations.

Marion was a 1950 graduate of New Castle High School, and he later served in combat as a member of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.

He was member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City.

He enjoyed tractor pulling and was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Antique Tractors Association.

Survivors include his son, Dan W. Martin and fiance, Kelly, and daughters, Brittany and Madison of Grove City; two stepsons, Wayne Chutz and his wife, Cathy, and Dennis Chutz and his wife, Gail, all of Grove City; two stepdaughters, Debra Cooney of Nashville, Tenn., and Darlene Whitting of Florida; a sister, Genevieve Hogg of New Wilmington; a brother, C. Clair Martin of Slippery Rock; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wives; an infant son, Rex; a brother, Samuel; and a sister, Lillian.

MARTIN — Funeral services for Marion Louis Martin, who died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2015, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock with the Rev. Scott Kifer of House of Hope in Vandergrift presiding.Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in South Plain Grove Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given in his name to Grove City YMCA.
