Dick’s Sporting Goods plans grand opening

BUTLER TWP — The new Dick’s Sporting Goods in Greenwood Plaza will have a two-day grand opening Feb. 6 and 7. The plaza is on West New Castle Road near the Route 422 interchange.

The new store will feature a new layout, wider aisles and an expanded number of sport-specific departments than the current store in Clearview Mall in Center Township, which is closing.

The company said that the first 100 people in line on Saturday will received a free t-shirt, and that the outlet will hold giveaways on Sunday as well. Adults who are in line at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday and 9:45 a.m. on Sunday also will get a chance to open a “gift locker.”

State reaches deal with CVS on expired productsHARRISBURG — The CVS drugstore chain has agreed to pay $450,000 to Pennsylvania to settle allegations that it sold over-the-counter drugs, infant formula and dairy products after their expiration date.In a consent decree filed Wednesday, the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office said CVS agreed to step up its screening of expired products and training of store managers and employees.The latest investigation stemmed from allegations that the Woonsocket, Rhode Island-based pharmacy giant continued to sell expired products after a 2010 agreement in which it agreed to voluntarily set up a system to ensure such products weren’t sold.Agents who followed up said they found expired products at five of the six CVS stores they visited.

Wal-Mart to give raises to most of its workersNEW YORK — The vast majority of Wal-Mart’s U.S. employees will get raises as part of the world’s largest retailer’s previously announced commitment to invest in its workforce as it faces pressure from labor-backed groups and seeks to retain workers in a tighter labor force.Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Wednesday said more than 1.2 million U.S. hourly workers will get wage increases Feb. 20. The company, which is the largest U.S. private employer with 1.4 million total workers, also said it will provide free, basic short-term disability to full-time hourly workers. And it will start allowing workers to accrue paid time off as they earn it.The moves mark the biggest changes Wal-Mart has made in its efforts to offer better wages and benefits to its workers.From staff and wire reports
