Police called to hotel room, but no one found in area

Tapes reveal 2 men leaving

BUTLER TWP — A call for a 20-year-old man unconscious and not breathing Thursday afternoon sent police to a room at the Days Inn hotel on Route 8 south.

But when officers got to the room, no one was there.

A check of hotel video surveillance later showed two males leaving the room before police got there about 5 p.m.

“We don’t know who called,” Butler Township police Lt. Matthew Pearson said this morning, “and we’ve not been able to identify the two males.”

Police found what Pearson would only describe as “heroin paraphernalia” in the room, leading to speculation that a possible drug overdose may have been the reason for the initial call.

He did not say what, if anything else, police seized.

When officers first arrived at the room, they repeatedly knocked at the door but got no answer. They eventually had a hotel employee unlock the door.

“There was no one inside,” Pearson said. “(Police) checked the area but could not find anyone.”

A Butler Ambulance Service crew and the South Butler Volunteer Fire Department also were reportedly called to assist.

It was not immediately known if police have the name of the person who checked into the room.

Pearson said the incident remains under investigation.
