Francis Rohrer Griffin
Francis Rohrer Griffin, 94, of Prospect passed away Monday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
Born Aug. 22, 1921, in Woodside, Fayette County, he was the son of the late Francis M. and Mary Ella Rohrer Griffin.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where he was a Sunday school teacher for over 60 years, served as an elder for 55 years and enjoyed going on missionary trips. He traveled on missionary trips six times to Haiti, 1980 to Nepal, 1998 to India, Columbia, and South America.
He was a member of the Portersville-Prospect Rotary Club since 1973. Along with participating in all aspects of Rotary, he enjoyed Rotary trips. During one of his Rotary community building trips, Francis selected one man, Lahens Sanon, to come back through Rotary and go to school. He went back to Haiti to start a family, mission and educational work. The family friendship has continued.
Mr. Griffin was a lifetime farmer, a collector of maps of Butler County and Fayette County, dating back to 1858, and an insurance agent in Prospect for 24 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Muldoon) Griffin, who he married Dec. 28, 2008; two daughters, Linda Lee Griffin of Virginia Beach, Va., and Marcia Lutz of Slippery Rock; one son, Glenn (Connie) Griffin of Prospect; his wife's children, Paul (Linda) Doriani of Williamsport, Pa., Daniel (Deborah) Doriani of St. Louis, Mo., and Christopher (Beth) Doriani of Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren, Francis Lee Friend, Katherine (Wesley) Hazlett, Lisa (Joe) Gill, Michelle (Jordan) Vinroe, Christina (David) Williamson and Melissa Sheets; great-grandchildren, Jizelle, Sophia and Demi Vinroe, Sydney and Emma Hazlett, Ty and Mia Gill, Cody Defresne, Rylee Williamson and Chelsea, Michael and Elizabeth Sheets.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Lloyd Griffin, who he married June 26, 1948, and passed away Aug. 31, 2003; and two brothers, Charles William Griffin and Harold Griffin.
GRIFFIN — Visitation for Francis Rohrer Griffin, who died Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect.Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday followed by the funeral service at noon at the Presbyterian Church of Prospect with the Rev. Steve Cort officiating.
