Police arrest Concord Twp man on drug charges

CONCORD TWP — A township man faces a hearing this week in connection with an alleged indoor marijuana growing operation at his home in 2014.

State police last week charged 30-year-old Aaron J. Banks with felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges.

Police vice officers in August 2014 went to Banks’ home in the 200 block of Oneida Valley Road after getting a tip that he was growing marijuana there, according to court documents.

Troopers said they smelled marijuana coming from inside the house as soon as they walked onto the front porch. The officers looked through an open window and noticed a marijuana pipe and grinder on a table.

They ended up getting a search warrant for the house. The search turned up 39 live marijuana plants and eight dead plants.

Police also seized materials used in the suspected illegal grow operation including lights, inverters, timers, electronic humidity reader, fertilizer and seed starters.

Additionally, documents said, police found processed marijuana, two pills of the anti-anxiety drug alprazolam and five empty packages of the painkiller fentanyl.

Banks was arraigned on charges and placed in the Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
