Sexual assault case dates back to the 1990s
A 20-year-old sexual assault case ended Thursday in Butler County Court without fanfare.
Defendant Kurt E. Wolf, 49, pleaded guilty to a first-degree felony count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a child under the age of 16 and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of children.
County Judge Timothy McCune sentenced Wolf to serve 3 to 10 years in state prison.
Neither the victim nor Wolf made a statement in court.
But Wolf’s defense attorney, Matthew Fischer, said his client “expressed remorse.”
Fischer said the district attorney’s office had given his client the opportunity to plead no contest instead of guilty. In a no-contest plea, a defendant does not have to acknowledge committing the crime.
“He wanted to do the right thing (accept responsibility by pleading guilty), and move on with his life,” Fischer said.
Although the allegations date back to the mid-1990s, they first came to light last fall.
The victim, now a man in his 20s, alleged Wolf forced him to watch and perform sex acts. The assaults reportedly took place in Wolf’s home, which was then in the Port-O-Call trailer park in Penn Township, as well as a hunting camp in Tionesta, Forest County.
According to court records, the victim said he came forward when he learned Wolf was in the position to victimize a 4-year-old child.
Court records say the victim told an investigator that when he found out about the child, “he knew he had to act. He told me that he has been living with this for years and wanted everyone to know that (Wolf) molested him when he was a child. He was in fear for (the 4-year-old) and any other child that may have had contact with (Wolf).”
Although Wolf is not considered a sexually violent predator, he still will be required to register his whereabouts with state police for the rest of his life because of the crime involved.
