Woman facing DUI charges
A suspected drunken driver was four times over the legal limit for alcohol when she drove off with the gas pump hose still in her car, Butler police said.
The suspect, Jerri Slagle, 46, of Butler Township, also did not know what time it was, according to court documents.
Slagle faces a hearing next month on driving under the influence charges that police filed Thursday.
Officers were called about 5:10 p.m. Feb. 5 after someone reported seeing a vehicle travel away from the A-Plus convenience store on East Jefferson Street with the fuel pump in the tank.
A Butler Township police officer also heard the radio call and stopped the suspect's vehicle in the GetGo store parking lot on Route 8 north.
The officer smelled a “very strong odor” of alcohol coming from the driver, identified as Slagle, a police affidavit said.
Slagle denied she had been drinking that day but admitted she consumed alcohol the previous night.
When the city officer questioned her if she knew the time, she replied it was 7 a.m., police said. It was actually 5:30 p.m.
Slagle failed three field sobriety tests and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. A breath test at the police station showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.321 percent, documents said.
A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
A preliminary hearing is set for March 28.
