Loyal W. Thompson Sr.
Loyal W. Thompson Sr., 87, of Sumter, S.C., formerly of Sarver, passed away Tuesday at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VAMC in Columbia, S.C.
Born Nov. 27, 1928, in Buffalo Township, he was the son of the late Alfred E. Thompson and Myrtle (Seyler) Thompson.
Loyal was a 1946 graduate of Freeport High School.
He was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1948 to 1952.
Loyal was employed at Westerman's Feed Store in Sarver, Limestone Mine in West Winfield, the American Bantam Car Co. in Butler, the Technical Coatings Co. in Oakmont, and retired from the Freeport School District custodial staff at South Buffalo Elementary School.
He was a member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Sarver and was a charter member of the Sarver Veterans Club. He was also a former Buffalo Township supervisor and a fire police officer for the Buffalo Township Fire Company.
Surviving are his loving children, his sons, Loyal W. Thompson Jr. of Sumter, S.C., and Jeffrey Thompson of Sumter, S.C.; his daughter, Robin Barrett of Franklin, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mona Giori of Sarver.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Alberta Mochel and Ester Young; and his brothers, Lynn Thompson and Lee Thompson.
THOMPSON — Friends of Loyal W. Thompson Sr., who died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jean Smith officiating.Military honors will be at the funeral home following the service by the Saxonburg American Legion Post 683.
