Gallardo, Orioles agree on contractThe Baltimore Orioles filled a big hole in their rotation, reaching agreement with free agent Yovani Gallardo on a three-year, $35 million contract Saturday.The deal came on the second day of workouts for Baltimore pitchers and catchers at spring training in Sarasota, Fla.Gallardo takes the spot that opened when Wei-Yin Chen became a free agent and signed with Miami.Gallardo went 13-11 with a 3.42 ERA for Texas last season.Manziel investigation nears completionDALLAS — Dallas police say they could conclude their domestic violence investigation of Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel by late next week.Police spokesman Maj. Midge Boyle said that investigators have reviewed medical records provided by Colleen Crowley, Manziel’s ex-girlfriend. Crowley told police Manziel hit her and dragged her into a car in late January.Manziel hasn’t been charged, but a judge has issued Crowley a protection order against him.Police haven’t interviewed Manziel, but spoke to several other witnesses. Boyle said police want to have their strongest case against Manziel before speaking to him.Griffey Jr. wants Bonds in HOFDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Ken Griffey Jr. says steroid-tainted slugger Barry Bonds deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, and Bonds agrees.Griffey served as honorary starter for the Daytona 500, where he waived the green flag to start the 58th running of “The Great American Race.”Before he took his spot in the starter’s stand, he met with the media, and one of the first questions was about Bonds belonging in Cooperstown.After a long pause, Griffey said “Yeah. I think that overall, when you look what people have done, yeah. It’s not my vote, so I can’t vote for him. But if you look at what he’s done, those numbers speak for themselves.”The polarizing home run king, Bonds is returning to the major leagues as hitting coach for the Miami Marlins. Bonds is 0 for 4 in annual Hall of Fame balloting.“There’s not one player that ever could say I’m not one,” Bonds said Saturday. “There’s not a coach who ever coached me who says I’m not one. In my heart and soul, and God knows, I’m a Hall of Famer.”Jagr in 3rd spot on NHL goals listSUNRISE, Fla. — Jaromir Jagr scored twice Saturday night to pass Brett Hull for third place on the NHL’s career scoring list with 742 goals.Only Wayne Gretzky (894) and Gordie Howe (801) have scored more NHL goals than Jagr. The 44-year-old Jagr has 20 goals in his 22nd NHL season.Jagr also scored 66 goals during three seasons in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.
