'Star' Power
The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will perform themes from memorable movies including “Star Wars,” “Superman,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T.” and “Jurassic Park” for its upcoming concert.
“At the Movies with the Music of John Williams” will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 5 in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.
The guest conductor will be Charles Latshaw, director of the Kent/Blossom Music Festival and the Kent State University Orchestra.
Latshaw previously served as artistic director and conductor of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra in Indiana. He also has held conducting positions with the Indianapolis Symphony, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and Washington Sinfonietta.
He was selected by members of the Vienna Philharmonic as the Herbert von Karajan conducting fellow in 2007. He holds a master's degree and a doctor of music in instrumental conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Latshaw will give a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. It will include snippets of the music to be performed.
Joining the orchestra for this concert will be Garrison Carida, local unit of the 501st Legion, a worldwide, professional costuming organization dedicated to the Dark Side characters of Star Wars.
Characters will be available throughout the evening to meet and greet guests and participate in photo opportunities.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students, plus a handling fee.
