Knoch bowlers on to regionalsTwo Knoch bowlers have advanced to the Pa. Western Regionals through their efforts at the WPIBL Championships Wednesday at Family Bowlaway.Bryan Hindman placed 10th in the WPIBL tourney. The Knights' Dylan McCommon advanced as well.The regional tourney is March 11 at North Versailles Bowl.

Mihalik named Coach of YearNEW YORK — Recently retired Slippery Rock University head football coach George Mihalik received the Division II Coach of the Year honor from the New York Metropolitan Football Writers Thursday night.The presentation took place at the annual Eastern Conference Football Awards Banquet at Met Life Stadium. All schools that reside in a state that touches the Atlantic Ocean, along with Vermont and West Virginia, are included in consideration for the award.Mihalik guided SRU to a 12-2 record, the Division II quarterfinals and a No. 7 national ranking. The Rock won the last three PSAC West titles and the last two PSAC Championships under his guidance.SRU was 17-0 at home in Mihalik's last three seasons as head coach.

Curry scores 51, breaks NBA recordORLANDO, Fla. — Stephen Curry’s smile gave way to laughter.The reigning MVP received an inbounds pass following a free throw, took a couple of dribbles past midcourt before launching a 44-foot shot that banked in at the buzzer.The crowd rose to its feet, Curry lifted his arms and struck a pose before chuckling his way to the Golden State bench.Curry shot 10 for 15 on 3-pointers and scored 51 points in a 130-114 victory over the Orlando Magic. He has made at least one 3 in a record 128 games.

Lowly Nets waive all-star JohnsonNEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets waived Joe Johnson, allowing the seven-time All-Star to leave one of the NBA’s worst teams and join a contender.The Nets announced the move after agreeing to a buyout of the remainder of Johnson’s contract — one of the largest in the NBA.

Outfielder Fowler staying with CubsMESA, Ariz. — Outfielder Dexter Fowler agreed to stay with the Cubs, spurning a $33 million, three-year offer from the Baltimore Orioles to accept a $13 million, one-year deal with Chicago that includes a mutual option for 2017.Fowler rejected a $15.8 million, one-year qualifying offer from the Cubs in November to test the free-agent market. Under the new agreement, he gets $8 million this year.
