A hearing is set later this month for a Butler man accused of whacking another man in the head with a cast-iron skillet during an argument sparked by dirty dishes.

The Feb. 18 attack at a house serving people in need of shelter left the victim with a concussion, Butler police said.

Police last week charged 26-year-old Joseph R. Parker with simple assault.

The alleged attack happened at a home in the 800 block of East Brady Street where Parker was residing with Randy Fenstermaker Jr. The Lighthouse Foundation, a nonprofit facility that offers emergency and transitional housing, owns the house.

Police spoke to Fenstermaker, 23, at the Butler Memorial Hospital emergency room where he had gone for treatment of injuries, court documents said.

He told investigators that he was washing dishes when Parker punched him in the mouth. He said the defendant “did not like the way he was doing (the dishes),” according to a police affidavit.

Next, Fenstermaker recounted, Parker grabbed the skillet and struck him in the head several times “until the skillet broke.”

Police noted that the victim had a swollen lip and a facial cut. A hospital physician also diagnosed him with a mild concussion, documents said.

Parker faces a preliminary hearing March 28 before District Judge William Fullerton,
