Woman hurt when car crashes into tree on Rt. 528
JACKSON TWP — A Butler County woman was injured late Sunday night when the car she was driving slammed head on into a tree along Route 528.
Firefighters had to rescue Sheila D. Morrison, 19, of Winfield Township, who was trapped in her vehicle after the wreck shortly before 11:30 p.m., Jackson Township police report.
Morrison was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with moderate to serious injuries, authorities said. Her condition was not known this morning.
Police did not immediately know why she lost control of her 2005 Toyota Solara on Route 528 about 80 feet north of Jo Deener Drive.
A resident on Jo Deener Drive heard or saw the wreck and called 911. The crash closed Route 528 to Interstate 79 for about an hour, said township police Chief Terry Seilhamer.
A Harmony Fire District crew had to extricate Morrison from the car. A medical helicopter was requested but could not fly due to the weather conditions.
A Harmony EMS ambulance took her to the Pittsburgh hospital.
Police said their investigation continues.
