Carol A. Walker

Carol A. Walker, 75, of Chicora went to be with the Lord following her unexpected passing late Friday evening of natural causes at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh.

Carol was born Jan. 31, 1941, in Beaver Falls. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Marjorie Chapman Stewart.

She graduated in 1959 from Mars High School and continued on to graduate from a practical nursing program. Later in life, she graduated from the dietary technician program at Penn State University.

Mrs. Walker was married Jan. 31, 1961, to James E. Walker Sr. He preceded her in death Feb. 8, 2006.

Carol was a longtime member of the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora. In the early 1980s after the loss of her beloved daughter, Patty, she headed the Compassionate Friends support group of Butler County.

Carol enjoyed searching on the Internet regarding current political topics, specialty foods and cooking methods. She also enjoyed knitting, reading and bird watching. But most especially, she enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren.

She worked briefly as a nurse before being a full-time, stay-at-home mother. She then returned to work and school in dietary, working 25 years. She retired following 20 years of service as a supervisor in the dietary department at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Carol is survived by four children, James E. Walker Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Chicora, Sandra Bright and her husband, Eric, of Butler, Sharon R. Snow and her husband, Dean, of Chicora and Patrick Walker and his wife, Kristin, of Chicora; 11 grandchildren, Seth Walker and his wife, Brianna, Zachery and Jacob Walker, David, Rebekah, Matthew and John Bright, Dylan and Alisha Thomas and Allison and Aaron Walker; and one great-granddaughter, Kinsley.

Carol was looking forward to the birth of her second great-grandchild in August.

Also surviving are five siblings, Beverly “Jean” Martin, Jeff Stewart, Carl Stewart, Jim Derringer and Judy Rain; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia L. Walker, who died Sept. 2, 1980; and her maternal grandparents with whom she was very close, Bill and Esther McPherson.

WALKER — Friends of Carol A. Walker, who died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. Rick Thompson, church pastor, officiating.Interment will follow at the Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
