Farm program enrollment open
Producers are being reminded that enrollment is open for the 2016 Farm Bill programs. Specifically, the ARC/PLC program enrollment runs through Aug. 1.
Producers can visit the FSA Office at their convenience between now and Aug. 1. Enrollment could also be completed when acreage reports are filed.
• There will be program April 7, hosted by Butler Farm Service Agency, 625 Evans City Road from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The program workshops include Financial Challenges of Succession Planning by Jared Grissinger, state Department of Agriculture Economic Development; Business, Legal and Tax Implications of Succession Planning by attorney Robert Clark of New Wilmington; Communication Challenges of Succession Planning by Darlene Livingston, executive director Pa. Farm Link and 4G Farmer; Risk Management for the Generations by Livingston; conflict management improvement; and farmer panel members who have completed a farm transition plan.
These workshops are presented by Pa. Farm Link, a nonprofit dedicated to “Linking Farmers to the Future.” The group will provide information on various aspects of creating a farm business succession/transition plan.
Often farm families start to discuss passing the farm to the next generation, but get stuck on how to proceed. This workshop will help work through some of the stumbling blocks of moving forward with a transition plan.
Registration includes lunch and a copy of “Planning the Future of Your Farm” Pa. edition (value $10.60): $11 each for two or more from the same farm or $12.50 for an individual. Register online by Friday at www.pafarmlink.org or call (717)-705-2121.
Luke Fritz is executive director of the Butler County Farm Service Agency.
