Car pulled from pond was stolen this week
OAKLAND TWP — State police this morning confirmed that the car pulled from a pond Wednesday was stolen this week.
They said the Pontiac Grand Am was stolen Monday or Tuesday from the Mahood Road home of Darla E. Whitlatch, 53, of West Sunbury. The vehicle had been in the driveway with the keys in the ignition, police said.
The submerged car was discovered by a motorist who reported it at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday. The motorist noticed a knocked-over road sign and tracks leading into the pond,
Emergency responders spent more than two hours Wednesday afternoon at the pond at 164 Hohn Farm Road as divers from Unionville Volunteer Fire Company searched the submerged four-door sedan and the pond, which is about 10 feet deep at its deepest point, but found no trace of anyone.
Tracks left by the vehicle and the knocked-over sign indicate the car was traveling east.
Police ask anyone with related information to contact the barracks at 724-284-8100.
