Kane suspects prosecutors leaked recordings by FBI

NORRISTOWN — Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane wants a judge to explore whether prosecutors leaked FBI recordings in her criminal case to a newspaper.

Kane is due in court today in Montgomery County for a pretrial hearing in her grand jury leak case.

Her lawyers say that only three parties had the FBI phone recordings of her political consultant: federal prosecutors, state prosecutors and Kane’s legal team.

Her court filings identify Montgomery County prosecutors as the likely culprit of last month’s leak to the Morning Call of Allentown.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele calls the claim “meritless” but does not object to a hearing.

Kane is accused of leaking grand jury material to a Philadelphia newspaper to embarrass rivals.

She also will ask the judge today if she can file a prosecutorial misconduct motion under seal.
