Bystander revives injured man who was hit by motorcycle
SLIPPERY ROCK — Two people were hurt, one critically, Saturday night when a motorcycle struck a Slippery Rock University student in the borough, authorities said.
James Donvito, 23, of Tunkhannock, Wyoming County was knocked unconscious but a bystander who saw the accident about 8 p.m. rushed in and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, according to rescuers.
Donvito had regained consciousness by the time emergency crews got there. He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh. His condition this morning was not known.
Doreen Taggart, the medical officer of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company, described his injuries as potentially life-threatening.
Crews reported he suffered head and right leg injuries.
Witnesses told investigators that Donvito walked in front of the motorcycle on Grove City Road at Rebecca Lane near the Slippery Rock borough-township line.
A Slippery Rock ambulance crew tended to him before he was taken to the SRU practice football field, where a STAT MedEvac helicopter landed and flew him to the hospital.
The motorcycle driver, Joshua Blasdell, 22, of Leesburg, Va., suffered unknown moderate injuries. Superior Ambulance took him to the Grove City Medical Center.
Blasdell was admitted in stable condition.
Slippery Rock police are investigating but an accident report was not completed and police were unavailable for comment this morning.
