Meadows fined for marketing to addicts

HOUSTON — The Meadows Racetrack and Casino has been fined $40,000 for allowing two people who excluded themselves from gambling to make wagers anyway, and cited for mailing promotional materials to other problem gamblers.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board fined the casino Wednesday.

Pennsylvania allows people who believe they have a gambling addiction to enter a self-exclusion list.

Casinos are supposed to monitor the list and make sure those people aren’t allowed to gamble or otherwise be targeted with casino marketing.

The casino has issued a statement say it “understands the seriousness of compulsive gambling and has in place a variety of programs to help minimize its impact on consumers.”
