Giant Eagle recalls packaged cookiesPITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle voluntarily posted recalls April 27 and 28 concerning its brand of Walnut Delight and Pecan Tassie cookies made in its bakeries, which could contain an undeclared milk allergen.The grocery chain posted the information on its website and is listed on the U.S. FDA’s list of current recalls. The company is asking customers with milk allergies to throw away or to return the cookies to a store. Customers will receive a refund for returns.The company sold 44,000 packages of Pecan Tassies and 290 Walnut Delights, spanning Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.The cookies are edible for those without a milk allergy, but people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk could suffer from a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.Customers with questions can call Giant Eagle Customer Care at 800-553-2324 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Clinton Township gets new secretaryCLINTON TWP — The township has a new secretary.Sarah Altomari of Apollo in Armstrong County started work Monday. She is being paid $34,000 annually.Altomari previously was an intern with Winfield Township, which told her about the vacant post in Clinton.She replaces Maggie Nelson, who was fired last month.
Wolf wants $11.4M Uber fine reducedHARRISBURG — Gov. Tom Wolf and Pittsburgh-area officials want Pennsylvania regulators to greatly reduce their record-setting $11.4 million fine against ridesharing company Uber.The Public Utility Commission fined Uber last month for operating six months in 2014 without the required approval.The company has said it would appeal and that it was “shocked” by the fine. Uber said no one was harmed and Pennsylvania has since approved its operation.
