Suspect faces new charges
EVANS CITY — A Summt Township man arrested and jailed last weekend after police pulled him over and found more than 70 stamp bags of suspected heroin in his car in Butler now is charged in an unrelated felony drug case.
The Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police Department on Wednesday accused Bradley E. Weitzel, 29, of having more than 70 prescription pills and 10 bags of heroin when they found him March 15 in a vehicle on South Washington Street in Evans City.
A patrol officer shortly before 5 p.m. spotted Weitzel and another man “acting suspiciously” in the vehicle, according to court documents. The officer patted down each man and found both with drugs.
Police said Weitzel also was carrying heroin, 67 pills of the anti-anxiety medication clonazepam and six pills of Adderall, a drug used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Weitzel did not have a prescription for either drug, documents said.
He is charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession. Additionally, he and Ryan N. Banner, 30, of Chicora, who was with him in the car, are charged with multiple misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges were filed five days after a traffic stop in Butler turned up a cache of drugs belonging to Weitzel, authorities said.
County narcotics officers and Butler police stopped his car after they received a report of suspected drug dealing on West North Street.
Police found him with 72 stamp bags of suspected heroin, a baggie of crack cocaine, two used syringes and a crack pipe, court documents said.
In the car, police said, officers seized a label-less prescription bottle with 11 pills of the anti-anxiety drug alprazolam.
Weitzel was arraigned that night on charges of felony and misdemeanor drug possession. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail following arraignment.
