Diane Elaine Fruehstorfer Otts, formerly of Butler, passed away March 30 in Albuquerque, N.M.

She was the daughter of Jack and Carole Frueh-storfer. Diane was a loving wife, mother and special friend to everyone lucky enough to know her.

Diane was born in 1964 in Leechburg and grew up in Butler, where she graduated from Butler High School in 1982.

After receiving her degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University, Diane moved to Maryland to work for the National Security Agency. After marrying, she left NSA to be a full-time mom and enjoyed other occupations such as freelance writing.

She and her family moved to Albuquerque, where she dedicated countless hours volunteering at her children's schools and working with kids on everything from learning a musical instrument to juggling. She also served as a mentor in math to students at risk and did substitute teaching.

An avid musician, Diane played baritone and alto saxophone with the Albuquerque Concert Band, her saxophone quartet, for her church and for any occasion that presented itself. She was known to thousands of high schoolers and music educators for her work with all-state band competitions.

She was intellectually curious and enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, hiking, musical instrument repair and so many others. Her favorite pastime was being with family and friends.

Recently, she received her certification to become a middle school science teacher and taught at the Grant Middle School in Albuquerque.

Diane is survived by her husband, Brad; and her two children, Sarah and Jack. She also is survived by her parents, and her brother, David Fruehstorfer of Butler.

OTTS — A celebration of the life of Diane Elaine Fruehstorfer Otts, who died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, was Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church.Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Albuquerque Concert Band, P.O. Box 11305, Albuquerque, NM 87192-1205.
