Former agent gets jail time
CRANBERRY TWP — A former Butler County real estate agent was sentenced Wednesday to federal prison.
Gregory Makozy, who previously owned A1 Mortgage in the township and had a home on Freedom Road, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for one count of concealing more than $1 million in bankruptcy assets.
He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Arthur Schwab and was also ordered to pay back $48,260 in restitution as part of his plea agreement.
Makozy in 2013 listed about $1,300 in assets and $385,000 in liabilities, according to the sentencing memorandum.
However, authorities said he initiated transactions that were not disclosed during his bankruptcy schedules. These include the June 2012 sale of his $1 million Blackstone Ridge Drive home in Adams Township that netted him more than $505,000 after costs and liens and a $54,000 Aston Martin vehicle to his wife, which was sold in 2014.
“Makozy is an opportunist who manipulated employees and was willing to put others including his spouse and son into precarious and potentially criminal territory in his desperate ruse,” said U.S. Attorney David Hickton in the memorandum.
