Passed out at wheel, man faces charges
Guilt wasn’t exactly written on his face. But the empty stamp bag of heroin stuck on his forehead was evidence of a man’s suspected drugged driving in Butler.
City police Tuesday charged Zackary A. Armstrong, 28, of Connoquenessing Township in connection with their investigation that started about 10:45 a.m. May 2 when they found him passed out at the wheel of a car on North Elm Street.
The key was in the ignition but the car was not running.
Police said that when Armstrong regained consciousness, they noticed a purple glassine bag of suspected heroin fastened to his forehead above the right eye, according to court documents.
When he stepped out of the car, police said a hypodermic needle fell to the vehicle floor. On the front seat, police found additional stamp bags of heroin and a heroin shooting kit.
Armstrong was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results subsequently showed the presence of heroin and cocaine in his system, documents said,
He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
In March, the Butler County Drug Task Force found Armstrong after they raided a suspected drug house in Butler. He was subsequently charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. That case is still pending in Butler County Court.
