Rebecca Ann Fleming Congdon

Rebecca Ann Fleming Congdon

Rebecca Ann Fleming Congdon passed away Sunday in Missoula, Mont.

She was born July 12, 1954, in Butler to Charles and Mary Ellen Schenck Fleming.

She graduated in 1972 from Knoch High School and earned her teaching degree in 1976 from West Virginia University and counseling degree in 1982 from Slippery Rock University.

Becky hoped to make a difference in the world through work as a teacher and school counselor. She taught on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota and on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. A student of history, she helped compile the history of South Dakota's Ziebach County in 1982.

Her first job was in a one-room schoolhouse. In those earlier years, she was actively involved with South Dakota and Montana counseling associations and youth programs including YMCA, AFS, EYH, Sunday school and Girl Scouts. She loved taking students new places and giving them new experiences.

Becky married Wally Congdon in 1991, and in 1996, they moved their young family to a ranch in Beaverhead County, Mont., where, with her eye for color, she enjoyed the scenery and learned to sort cattle. During the past six years, she taught at Lima Schools.

Becky is survived by her husband, Wally; her daughter, Ona; and her son, Sam, all of Montana; her parents; her brother, Douglas (Judy) Fleming; her sister, Martha (Brian Noah) Fleming; and her niece, Callie Fleming of Butler.

CONGDON — Interment for Rebecca Ann Fleming Congdon, who died Sunday, May 1, 2016, will be at the Bear Creek Cemetery in Bruin.
