Lois Jean (Merten) Govan

Lois Jean (Merten) Govan, 71, of Sarver died on Mother's Day at Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights after battling multiple myeloma for several years.

She was born July 12, 1944, in Natrona Heights, the daughter of the late Robert Merten and Eleanor Cupps Merten of Saxonburg. Lois loved animals, especially her dogs Ralph and Sonny. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Saxonburg.

She is survived by her three sons, Kevin (Lorraine) Shaffer of West Sunbury, Brian Shaffer of Saxonburg and John (Brenda) Shaffer of Sarver; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her former husband and companion, Jack Shaffer Sr. of Sarver; and four siblings, Lucille (Terry) Uncapher, Paul (Joyce) Merten and Ethel (David) Kristofic, all of Saxonburg and Virginia (Dennis) Stacy of Ellport.

GOVAN — There will be a private memorial and interment for Lois Jean (Merten) Govan, who died Sunday, May 8, 2016. Her ashes will be buried at Middlesex Methodist Cemetery.In lieu of flowers or cards, the family asks that donation be made in Lois' name to the cancer research organization of your choice or to your local animal shelter.
