SRU expects savings from energy
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University says it will save millions of dollars in energy costs over the next two decades because of a plan to upgrade utility infrastructure on its campus.
The agreement with Honeywell Industries will include improvements to lighting, water conservation, heating, ventilation and other utility monitoring systems.
The upgrades will cost about $9.8 million, but SRU said it expects $15.8 million in net savings over the 12-year life of the contract, giving it $6 million in savings from the upgrades.
Another $1.1 million in savings could be realized over 20 years through deferred maintenance and other energy efficiency improvements, the university said Friday.
The installation projects will begin shortly, and take about two years to complete.
SRU said Honeywell was selected through a competitive proposal process that included 11 companies.
