Edward Dale “Ed” Mills

Edward Dale “Ed” Mills, 88, of Butler passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 2, 1927, in Greensburg to the late George Mills and Amelia (Youngblood) Mills.

Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea.

After being discharged from the Army, he enrolled in the Westinghouse Trades Training Program in East Pittsburgh as an apprentice machinist. Ed was transferred to the Westinghouse plant in 1954, in Cheswick, where he operated various machines for two years then moved to quality assurance. In another two years Ed transferred to the drafting department. He took evening classes at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, which now is Carnegie Mellon University, where he completed courses in engineering drawing, mathematics and literature. He retired as a tool designer after 38 years.

He is survived by four sons, Edward Mills Jr. and his wife, Sally, of Butler, Patrick Mills and his wife, Nancy, of Butler, Stanley Mills and his wife, Maria, of Bulter and Jock Mills and his wife, Rachael, of Cowansville; one daughter, Sara Elder and her husband, Mark, of Butler; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Mills of Burlington, N.C., and Robert Mills of Latrobe; three sisters, Doris Patten of Lakeland, Fla., Joyce Voll of Virginia Beach, Va., and Gail Rohrbacher of Delmont, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarajane Mills; his second wife, Bernita Mills; his grandchild, Christopher Mills; and his two brothers, George Mills II and Jack Mills.

MILLS — Friends of Edward Dale “Ed” Mills, who died Saturday, May 14, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Barry Keurulainen of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cabot officiating.Private burial will take place at the Lakewood Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the VFW Joseph T.
