Woman dies after motorcycle wreck
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — State police are investigating a motorcycle wreck Wednesday evening turned fatal for a Venango County woman.
Raegan Lynn Phenicie, 42, of Franklin died of injuries in the one-vehicle crash about 6 p.m. on Route 8 just north of Kiester Road in Slippery Rock Township, authorities said.
Phenicie was a passenger on the 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that her husband, Donald James Phenicie, 43, of Franklin, was driving south.
Donald Phenicie apparently suffered only minor injuries, police said.
The police report did not indicate the relationship of the riders.
Investigators said Donald Phenicie was temporarily blinded by the sun and didn’t see vehicles in front of him, which were stopped and waiting to turn left.
Police Cpl. Tim Morando said the motorcycle fishtailed and both riders were thrown off. Neither wore a helmet.
Authorities said witnesses did cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Raegan Lynn Phenicie for about 20 minutes before a Slippery Rock EMS crew took her by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital. Butler County Coroner William Young III said Phenicie died of injuries to her head, neck and chest.
The accident closed the road to highway for more than an hour to allow for the accident reconstruction investigation.
The Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the scene, where emergency crew remained until just after 7:30 p.m.
