Louis Duke III
Louis Ashley Duke III of Clay Township passed away peacefully Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his wife and sons.
Lou was born Feb. 3, 1947, in Bellevue, Pa. He was the son of the late Louis Ashley Duke Jr. and the late Rosemarie Walsh Duke. He was a Catholic.
Lou graduated from Steubenville College and then became a trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police. He spent the majority of the next 24 years stationed in Butler with Troop D.
An avid golfer, Lou for many years organized the annual Troop D Butler Golf Tournament. He also enjoyed the Tuesday and Thursday golf league at Oakview. The joys of his life in the past years were his grandsons.
Lou is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joann Zedreck Duke; and their sons, Brian Ashley and his wife, Alissa, and their son, Louis Ashley IV, of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Timothy Ashley and his wife, Alicia, and their son, Eli Ashley, of Dauphin, Pa.
Lou has a sister, Patricia (Chuck) Henry of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two stepbrothers, Jim and Ed Patterson.
Additionally, Lou will be greatly missed by his “Zedreck” family, Verna Zedreck of Butler, Patricia and Gib Brandon of Butler, Bob and Carleen Zedreck of McDonald, and Rick and Kim Zedreck of Hilliards.
There are also eight nieces and nephews who survive.
DUKE — Friends of Louis Ashley Duke III, who died Sunday, May 22, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. James Bedillion of St. Alphonsus Parish officiating.
