A Butler man has been ordered to leave his live-girlfriend and her cat alone after allegedly abusing both during a domestic dispute at their home last week.

City police Friday arrested Gerry L. Kendall, 34, on misdemeanor assault charges stemming from the fight that left his girlfriend in need of medical treatment.

Police were called to the Butler Memorial Hospital emergency room where 34-year-old Stephanie McCormick had showed up with injuries in the suspected Thursday night attack.

She told investigators that she and Kendall were arguing at their North Main Street apartment between 8 and 10 p.m. when he kicked her cat, according to court documents.

The suspected kitty kicker then hit McCormick in her face three times and choked her, police said.

The investigating officer noticed the woman’s injuries, including bruising on her face and neck, while at the hospital.

Police later arrested Kendall, and District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Saturday arraigned him on a charge of simple assault. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

During the arraignment proceedings, Stoughton set a pair of conditions on Kendall’s release should he make bail. He was ordered to have “no contact with (the) victim” and “don’t touch the cat,” according to the judge’s handwritten bail release conditions.

Kendall’s preliminary hearing is July 11.
