Joseph A. Sleigher

Joseph A. Sleigher, 75, of Clarington, Pa., formerly of East Butler, passed away Wednesday at Paramount Senior Living in Seven Fields.

Born Nov. 25, 1940, in Butler, he was a son of the late Lewis S. and Dorothy (McClain) Sleigher.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Navy, where he had served 20 years of active duty. Following his retirement, he had worked as a boat captain for the River Patrol.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 249 in Butler and the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his camp in Forest County.

Surviving are three daughters, Paige L. Sleigher of Lyndora, Kayla (Justin) Stroup of Parker and Melissa (Charlie) Cox of Cabot; his son, Herb L. (Michelle) Sleigher of Butler; three brothers, Louis “Butch” (Bonnie) Sleigher of Dallas, Texas, Philip D. and Michael (Nancy) Sleigher, both of East Butler; two sisters, Sr. Stella Maria, SCMC of Baltic, Conn., and Joanne (Bill) Halahan of Antioch, Calif.; his stepsister, Sharon; his stepbrother, Jerry Phillips; four granddaughters; six grandsons; two stepgrandsons; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack; his stepsister, Mary Ellen; and his adopted son, Amos.

SLEIGHER — Friends of Joseph A. Sleigher, who died Wednesday, June 8, 2016, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A grave side service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Wendelin Cemetery, 210 St. Wendelin Road, Butler, with a full military service.Memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post 249 at 429 W.
