Freddie “Fred” Lee Webb

Freddie “Fred” Lee Webb, Ed.D., 73, of Slippery Rock, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 24, 1943 in Muncie, Ind., the son of the late Donald E. Webb and the late Dortha Webb Koger, and stepson of the late Elmer Koger.

Dr. Webb began his career as a high school teacher after receiving his B.S. in education from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., in 1964.

Following his brief years of teaching, he was employed by the General Motors Corp. for 16 years; at the Chevrolet Motor Division in Muncie, Ind., and the General Motors Corp. headquarters in Detroit.

While at GMC, Fred was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship and in 1976 earned a M.B.A., science of management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass.

In the early 1980s Fred was recruited by the Rockwell International Corp. and worked at its corporate offices in Pittsburgh and its Measurement and Flow Division in Raleigh, N.C.

Fred continued in his business career as a senior level management consultant in Michigan and Pennsylvania. As Fred had successfully been employed by large corporations and small businesses for nearly 40 years, in 2000 he returned to his heart's desire of teaching. Fred became a visiting professor at Grove City College and then joined the staff of Geneva College as a full-time associate professor of business.

During this time in 2006, Fred graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, earning a doctor of education.

In 2007 Fred was hired by Slippery Rock University and taught in the business department until his retirement in 2015, at the age of 72.

During Fred's career he traveled extensively, domestically and internationally. Fred enjoyed the outdoors and his pets.

Although he was a native Hoosier, he fully embraced Western Pennsylvania as his home. Fred loved the Lord and most recently enjoyed being a drummer in the Slippery Rock Alliance church's worship team. Fred was a hard-working, devoted, and loving husband.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne, of 25 years; Fred's son, Shawn (Michele) Webb of Canton, Ga., and his daughter, Taylor, and son, Barrett; Fred's daughter, Shana Webb of Pittsburgh, and her sons, Bradley Ables and Sean Ables, and daughters, Katherine Zdrojowy and Erin Zdrojowy; Fred's stepson Andrew (Mindy) Lewis of Maryville, Tenn., and their children, Samuel, Maxwell and Mary Lauren; Fred's stepdaughter, Monica Lewis of Slippery Rock, and her daughter, Abigail; and Fred's half-sister, Teresa Koger, and half-brother, Chris (Angie) Koger, all of Muncie, Ind.

Fred is survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara (John) Miller of New Martinsville, W.Va. Fred is also survived by a special aunt, Virginia Miley of Ocoee, Fla., and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

WEBB — Family and friends of Dr. Fred Webb, who passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Additional viewing will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday followed at 11 a.m. with funeral services conducted by the Rev. P. Joseph Barth of Slippery Rock Alliance and Pastor Ben Oesterling of Mt. Zion Baptist Church at the Slippery Rock Alliance Church, 530 Keister Road, Slippery Rock.Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 2251 Prospect Road, Prospect, Following the interment, family and friends are invited to a funeral luncheon at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church fellowship hall.Memorial donations in Fred's name may be made to the In Touch Ministries, the ministry of Dr. Charles Stanley.
