Cranberry man faces burglary charges
CRANBERRY TWP — A woman called 911 at 3:59 a.m. Wednesday to report that she woke up and found a strange man with a knife in her bedroom.
After a brief struggle, during which he allegedly threatened her, the man dropped the knife and fled her apartment on Bellwood Court, she said. She was not injured.
While en route to the address, police encountered a man matching the home invader’s description walking on Haine School Road; he was sweating profusely and appeared to be intoxicated, according to the criminal complaint.
Officers placed Ronald R. Cooper of Cranberry Township under arrest and charged him with felony burglary, felony criminal trespass, felony criminal attempt at theft by unlawful taking, misdemeanor terroristic threats and harassment.
Cooper, 39, allegedly told police that he was having financial difficulties and entered the residence looking to steal something of value. He said he brought the knife to open the rear door.
He is in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Aug. 5.
